A long Memorial Day Weekend is coming up soon and as always, Birmingham has a packed schedule. With cookouts, memorial services and outdoor fun, you have plenty of ways to spend the long weekend. Keep reading to find your weekend plans.

Memorial Day weekend is an opportunity to commemorate the sacrifices made by veterans and the men and women serving in the armed services. There are many ways to honor those who have fought the good fight here in Birmingham:

Alabama National Cemetery

  • When: Monday, May 30
  • Time: 9AM
  • Where: Alabama National Cemetery
  • Ceremony will include a flyover, patriotic music, ceremonial wreath Laying, rifle salute and taps.

American Village

  • When: Monday, May 30
  • Time: 11AM
  • Where: American Village
  • Following the free service, wreath-laying, tours and family-friendly activities will go on until 4PM.

  • Where: Railroad Park
  • FREE to allβ€”arrive 15 minutes early to register

The Market at Pepper Place

Memorial Day at The Zoo

  • When: Saturday, May 28-Monday, May 30
  • Time: 9AM-5PM
  • Where: The Birmingham Zoo
  • FREE admission for veterans, active and retired military, including their dependents
