In 2021, the City of Birmingham brought back one of its favorite holiday traditions—the lighting of the Christmas tree! Since as early as 1948, people in Birmingham have made their way to Linn Park to celebrate the holidays with this annual tradition. This year, Mayor Randall Woodfin and the Birmingham City Council hosted a grand Holiday Extravaganza on Sunday, December 5th, full of vendors, food trucks, live music and—of course—the lighting of the Christmas tree.

2. Sibyl Temple in Vestavia Hills

Have you noticed the Christmas tree inside Sibyl Temple, the Classically-inspired gazebo atop Shades Mountain? Located off Highway 31 on the way into Vestavia Hills, Sibyl Temple was once part of the estate of George Ward, the 13th Mayor of Birmingham! After his death, all 87+ tons of the Sibyl Temple were moved to its current location on Shades Mountain. Now, Sybil Temple is a popular spot for small weddings, birthday parties, photoshoots and—during the holidays—Christmas tree viewings!

3. Vestavia Hills City Center

Do yourself a favor & go for a drive (or a walk!) in downtown Birmingham to see how many holiday decorations you can find—just like this one! This massive Christmas tree is located in front of the Birmingham Financial Center, one of the towering buildings that makes up Birmingham’s financial district.

Location: 505 20th St N, Birmingham, AL 35203

5. Regions-Harbert Plaza

Okay, this one might not be a Christmas “tree” in the conventional sense, but I think it counts! An annual tradition for 40+ years, the Regions Bank Christmas display is comprised of roughly 2,500+ windows. Glowing red, white and green, these windows are part of massive holiday displays—a Christmas tree, wreath and a stocking—that can be seen from nearly anywhere in The Magic City.

Location: 1901 6th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203
