Christmas is upon us and you know what that means…holiday movies! One of the best ways to get into the Christmas spirit is cozying up in front of the big screen, so we found five places for you and your family to watch Christmas movies in Birmingham. Check it out!

1. Alabama Theatre

The Alabama Theatre’s holiday film showings came a little early this year. They’ve recently released their 2021 holiday film schedule and this series is something you don’t want to miss. It is full of holiday classics including:

  • A Christmas Story.
  • Miracle on 34th Street (1947 version)
  • White Christmas
  • It’s a Wonderful Life

For the kids, there will be a cartoon matinee triple feature with A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The series will kick off on Friday, December 3. Ticket information is available here.

2. Sidewalk Cinema at The Pizitz

Prefer to catch new releases? I’m pleased to tell you that Sidewalk Cinema will be showing the new narrative SPENCER. SPENCER is about the late Princess Diana’s experience with the royal family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England during the Christmas holiday.

Showtime is Thursday, December 2 at 5:30PM

3. AMC Summit 16

If you’re holiday shopping at The Summit, end your evening watching Almost Christmas at AMC Summit 16. Showing times for the two-hour long movie are coming soon.

AMC Summit 16 also has an upcoming holiday event. First is the “Christmas with the Chosen” event on Wednesday, December 1. New and classic Christmas songs from the set of The Chosen will be performed by various artists. Showtimes are available here. The artists include:

4. McWane Science Center: IMAX Dome Theater

This one is for families with kiddos. From December 10 to 12, the John W. Woods IMAX Dome Theater at McWane Science Center will be showing The Polar Express and The Grinch (2018 version). Here are the showtimes:

  • Friday, December 10
    • 7PM: The Polar Express
  • Saturday, December 11
    • 10:30AM: The Grinch
    • 12:30PM: The Polar Express
    • 2:30PM: The Grinch
  • Sunday, December 12
    • 1PM: The Grinch

5. Red Mountain Theatre

You can also watch Christmas stories live. Red Mountain Theatre (RMT) will have a “Holiday Spectacular” where RMT Youth Ensemble students perform alongside Birmingham’s best local talent. The spectacular will celebrate the holidays with displays of all your favorite music of the season from December 3 to 19.

Showtimes are Wednesday-Friday 8PM, Saturday 2PM & 8PM and Sunday 2PM.
