UPCOMING OPENING: New $400M hospital construction breaks ground

The Birmingham area is getting a new state-of-the-art medical facility in 2024 thanks to Medical West Hospital Authority, an affiliate of the UAB Health System. This project just broke ground, but we’re here to give you some insight into what to expect from this exciting new full-service hospital.
A replacement facility for Medical West
Medical West Hospital Authority broke ground on their new building on Wednesday, November 17. However, this project has been in the works for many years now as Medical West anticpated the need for a newer space. This replacement facility is located at 4501 Bell Hill Rd in McCalla.

The 46-acre development site off of I-459 in McCalla will bring a much-needed, updated medical faciliity to the residents of West Jefferson County.
Details on the facility
The new building will function as a full-service hospital. It will include a new surgical and endoscopy suite, state-of-the-art imaging technology and more intensive care beds.
Get ready for a 412,000 square feet, nine-story hospital plus a 127,000 square foot, five-story medical office building. This huge facility will hold 200 beds and contain ample space for staff and visitors.
The people behind the project
CBRE: Commercial Real Estate Services is taking lead as the project manger for the new hospital building. The design and build team consists of Brasfield & Gorrie as the general contractor, HKS and KPS as the architects of the development, and CCI, Bhate Geosciences and Building & Earth as the site engineers.
The finanical backers of this project include Concourse, Raymond James, Thornton Farrish, PNC Bank, GNC, and Maynard, Cooper & Gale.
