Birmingham is home to many animal shelters and rescues. If you’re looking for a way to give back and help animals in need, here are five paw-some fundraising events that are purrr-fect for you.

1. ‘Tails in the Trails 2021

Feeling wild? Then head to The Birmingham Zoo on Friday, October 1 for the 11th Annual ‘Tails in the Trails blowout.

Benefiting the Zoo’s future Cougar Crossing Habitat, the outdoor celebration features:

  • Beer, wine + specialty cocktails
  • Foodie favorites from local restaurants
  • Live music by Nationwide Coverage
  • Online auction

*This is a 21+ event.

2. Putts for Paws

Does the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) pull at your heart strings? Now is the perfect time to show your support.

On Friday, October 8, join the GBHS Young Professionals Board for the Putt for Paws Golf Tournament at Highland Park Golf Course.

Those who attend have the chance to:

  • Play 18 holes of golf
  • Cheer during the awards ceremony
  • Bid at the silent auction
  • Win amazing prizes

3. Katoberfest

Get ready to say MEOW, because Katoberfest is coming up on Thursday, October 14 at Cahaba Brewing Company.

Modeled after the traditional Bavarian Oktoberfest, this cat-loving event benefits Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue and Gatos and Beans.

During the event, expect:

  • Food and seasonal Oktoberfest-style beer from Cahaba Brewery
  • Live music from Birmingham-based band Margeaux and the Cats Meow
  • Tours of Gatos and Beans
  • Vendors with a variety of merchandise
  • Raffles with great gifts + services

4. Barktoberfest

Let me hear those howls because Barktoberfest is back this year on Sunday, October 17 at the Helena Amphitheater.

Benefiting Two by Two Rescue, the event highlights the organizations mission with onsite adoptions, a vaccine and microchip clinic.

Along with the chance to adopt an animal in need, there will be lots of activities, including:

  • Children’s activities
  • Food trucks
  • Hay rides
  • Off-leash dog park
  • Vendors

New this year:

  • Dog & Master Masquerade contest
  • Live entertainment from Dance Et Cetera and local singer songwriter Chase Stewart at the Leonard Watkins Band

5. Bark in the Park

Bark in the Park benefiting Shelby Humane Society is back on Saturday, November 6 for its 15th year.

Held at Veteran’s Park in Alabaster, there is a jam-packed agenda with everything from vendors and food trucks to a pet costume contest and Santa.

The best part—the adoptable pets. If you’re seeking a sweet family addition, be sure to attend the event.
