We’re celebrating the return of football season with our favorite Birmingham spots to grab your tailgate essentials. Because, let’s be honest, good food and cold beer are non-negotiable at any successful tailgate. Whether you’re headed to the games or watching from home, we’ve got you covered.

1. SAW’s BBQ is essential for any Birmingham tailgate

You had to see this one coming. When we polled our 75K Instagram followers, the love for SAW’s was overwhelming.

Whether you plan to watch the game at the restaurant or take it to go, they’ve got your game day eats covered.

2. Jack’s is an Alabama original

Started in Homewood back in 1960, it’s no surprise that Jack’s is a local favorite. We’re big fans of their crispy chicken sandwiches and delicious milkshakes.

Pick up a tray of their signature crispy chicken tenders or fried chicken to please any crowd. Oh, and don’t forget the honey mustard!

3. Upgrade your Birmingham tailgate with Rodney Scott’s

Rodney Scott‘s is another Magic City favorite for all of your BBQ needs. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, but we recommend the original pork plate.

You can easily place a to-go or catering order, depending on how hungry your crew is.

4. Baumhower’s Victory Grille is a touchdown

Our Instagram followers were singing Baumhower’s praises, so we had to investigate their tasty offerings. This platter is “Wesley’s Hot Lips,” and it is seriously calling my name.

I’m team boneless, but if you prefer traditional-style wings, fried pickles or even a gourmet burger, Baumhower’s is for you.

5. Birmingham tailgates need Full Moon BBQ

A favorite of the Alabama football department, Full Moon feels like a very appropriate choice for a game day meal. They are serving up Alabama’s Signature White BBQ sauce, in addition to all the classic BBQ sides. I’m talking mac and cheese, slaw, baked beans and more.

With many locations offering drive-thru, dine-in or catering, they’re making it easy on you. Just make sure you don’t miss out on their signature Half Moon cookies…they are a game changer!

6. Gus’s is a Bham Now favorite

Dangerously convenient to our office, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is serving up fresh and juicy fried chicken and a wide array of Southern-style sides.

Place a catering order, delivery or to-go and enjoy the game while you chow down. Pro tip: get an extra side of Ranch.

7. Dreamland is what Bham tailgates are made of

Rounding out our list is another tried and true favorite, Dreamland BBQ. The BBQ spot was founded in Tuscaloosa way back in 1958, and it’s been a game day staple ever since.

If you’re looking for the most authentic option, be sure to go for their ribs, BBQ sauce and white bread. You can’t beat it!
