Summer trends according to Bham boutiques + how to shop them
Reading time: 4 minutes
I might be counting down the days until fall weather, but we’re still in the thick of summer heat. Until then, I’m going to turn the streets of Birmingham into my runway and test out these trends that local boutiques are seeing this summer. Here are the top fashion trends according to the most fashionable folks in the biz.
Here at Bham Now, we love supporting local.
We ❤️ local and want to support you. If you own a local business, please add your information to our local business or our non-profit directory. It’s where we will look first for up-to-date and relevant information on how the Birmingham community can support you right now.
3 summer trends to keep your eye on in Birmingham
1. Mixing dressy and casual
When I asked the mother-daughter duo behind HaMi Boutique what trends they’ve been seeing this season, one stood out: mixing dressy and casual. As a major fan of casual fits, this is definitely a go-to for me. Here’s how you can incorporate it in your own style.
“Whether you have a tiered dress, sundress or fitted dress, slip on a white sneaker and hit the town. It pairs well with solid or printed dresses in mini, midi or maxi lengths. While you are shopping or touring during a vacation, sneakers are great for comfort and style.”

2. Comfortable work wear
According to men’s clothier Brogue and Cuff, comfortable work wear is trending. No surprise after a year of athleisure, right?
“With many people transitioning back into working in an office setting, there is an uptick in interest in comfortable work wear. We have requests for custom and five pocket twill pants, as well as action wear fabrics.
Our cotton sport coats with stretch are a wardrobe staple and can be worn with jeans in a more casual setting. Bold belts or sleek shoes in different colors and textures complete even the most casual look.”

3. Incorporating 90s style
The 90s are back with a vengeance according to Annabelle’s Southern Boutique. Bonus: you can carry this trend into fall.
“With everything so high-waisted (jeans, shorts, skirts) you can give any top that shorter length. If your shirt isn’t already cropped you can do the front bra tuck or if you’re not comfortable with a cropped look, settle for a loose/messy tuck.”
