7 language learning classes in Birmingham to check out now

Comment allez-vous, ma cherie? Summer is here and for a lot of us, it’s prime time to pick up a new hobby. For anyone interested in adding a second (or third or fourth) language to their repertoire, we’ve got seven language learning courses you can sign up for today.
1. Bama by Distance
The University of Alabama’s Bama by Distance program lets you enroll in lots of courses without ever needing to move to Tuscaloosa. These classes can help you finish a current degree, start and complete an entirely new degree, add a certificate to your resume and more.
For language learning, Bama by Distance offers a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education (ESOL), which prepares students to teach English to students of all languages and backgrounds.
2. iSpeak
iSpeak is a Birmingham-based language learning company focused on Spanish and English. With classes for every age and comprehension level, you’ll be able to find the best fit for you.
You can join a class with other students or enroll in private lessons that can be tailored to fit your language learning needs.

3. Cooking with Culture
Interested in not just learning another language, but cooking in one too? Cooking with Culture in Hoover combines Italian culture with cooking traditional Italian recipes (so more than just pizza) to truly immerse students.
Taught by a professor and a chef, it’s a great learning (and dining) experience, and with solo classes, Cooking with Culture also makes a great date night.
4. Samford’s Academy of the Arts
Samford’s Academy of the Arts offers tons of courses, from photography to painting to several language classes. No need to be a Samford student to enroll, you can take language classes in English, French and Spanish.

5. Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind
The Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind teaches year-round American Sign Language (ASL) courses for every level, ages 15 and up.
You can find these classes at every AIDB Regional Center, including the Birmingham center. No need to have a sight or hearing impairment to enroll.

6. Speed Spanish at Jefferson State Community College
In partnership with Ed2Go, Jefferson State Community College offers Speed Spanish courses, ranging from beginner to intermediate. No need to be a full time student at the college to enroll, so this class is great for anyone looking to add another language to their resume. The course is online too, so you can learn from anywhere.
7. Alabama Germany Partnership
The Alabama Germany Partnership works to foster strong relationships between Alabama and Germany, through individual and business alliances.
