According to the ASPCA, senior pets are over 40% less likely to be adopted than their younger counterparts. That means, there are too many lovable kitties and pups living out their old age in shelters instead of living the high life curled up on their human’s couch! With National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day coming up on April 30, 2021, we put together a list of adoptable senior pets in Birmingham just waiting for forever homes.

1. Brody at Two by Two Rescue

Brody is quite a Southern gentleman! A calm, go-with-the-flow kind of dude that asks very little of you. He’s content just being with you in the comforts of home. The couch potato type, but does enjoy going for walks and you’ll love that he has perfect leash manners.

Brody is an 11-year-old mixed male. At 97 lbs he’s large and in charge, but his manners hold up.

2. Madame Ziva at Kitty Kat Haven Rescue

gray cat
Madame Ziva, 11 yrs old, is currently available for adoption at Kitty Kat Haven Rescue.

Madame Ziva came to the Haven after her most recent owner lost her home and had been unable to properly care for her…She is sweet and healthy and now that her matted fur has been shaved, much more comfortable!

Madame Ziva is an 11-year-old Persian female looking for some tender, loving care.

He had a really rough start with us, but he is in great health now. He gets along so well with other dogs, is house and crate trained and an absolute love.

Elroy is an 8-year-old male American Pit Bull Terrier. His medium, stocky size makes him perfect for any living situation and big, tight hugs!

4. Charlie at Two by Two Rescue

When you ask Charlie, “Who’s a good boy?” he knows, it’s him! He’s a happy fellow that has lived with dogs of all sizes. Charlie loves car rides and when he sees the leash come out, he gets super excited to go for a walk.

Two by Two Rescue

Charlie is a 10-year-old male shepherd mix. This big boy weighs in at 77.4 lbs, so make sure you have a couch large enough to handle his larger-than-life cuddles.

5. Maci with Kitty Kat Haven Rescue

Hi, I’m Maci!…I can be independent, but I’ll also sit on your lap like there’s no tomorrow (especially if there’s a fuzzy blanket involved)…I haven’t had the best life, but I’m so ready to find my forever home with someone who loves and understands me.

Kitty Kat Haven Rescue

Maci is a 10-year-old female domestic short hair. She might take a little while to warm up, but once she does she’ll be such a cuddle bug.
