Things are heating up in The Magic City. The Market at Pepper Place is open for the season, new restaurants are being added to our foodie bucket list and local favorites are reopening their doors. Here’s what’s new in Birmingham.
Here at Bham Now, we love supporting local.
If you’re looking to shop local, but don’t know where to start, check out our local business directory with over 720 businesses.
1. Coffee Shoppe at Vino
Wake up, English Village because a newcoffee shop is coming to town. Teaming up with earth-friendly coffee company Amavida Coffee Roasters, Coffee Shoppe at Vino opens in English Village on April 24.
They’ll be whipping up coffee, smoothies, tea, small breakfast options and paninis Monday through Saturday from 6AM-11AM. Coffee Shoppe at Vino will also feature daily menu changes that’ll reflect special events, themed days and more. Stop by on April 24 for their grand opening.
2. Chez FonFon’s dining room
Last week, Chez FonFon’s dining room reopened so Birmingham can get a taste of Europe without all the pollen. Although their patio has been open for the past few months, it’s nice to know that we can enjoy their indoor dining with limited seating, of course.
Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are always available for up to 6 guests at a table or 2 for bar seating. Stop by for lunch, dinner and my personal favorite burger in all of Birmingham.
3. Club Duquette
We’re welcoming back Club Duquette who are now reopening the doors to the Woodlawn shop. After a year that was hard on all small businesses, Birmingham’s support helped Club Duquette survive the storm.
The shop is now open Thursday through Saturday from 12-5PM. You can even visit during one of Woodlawn’s Street Markets.
4. Moody Nutrition
Moody has welcomed a new spot to grab your healthy teas, shakes and vitamins. Owners Lonnie and Janie Williams are offering dozens of flavors including tropical, tangy, sweet and citrus teas. If you’re craving something sweet, choose from their shakes with flavors like Banana Pudding, PB&J, Cookie Dough and more.
5. The Market at Pepper Place
Warm weather is back, delicious produce is growing and the Pepper Place farmers’ market is back. I don’t know about you, but The Market at Pepper Place is something I look forward to every year in Birmingham. April 10 marked the first weekend of the market and will be open every Saturday from 7AM-12PM.
Vendors sell everything from fresh produce and baked goods to hand-crafted products. Masks are required and there are designated areas for eating and drinking available.
6. Social
Five Points South is vibrant and about to welcome a new bar, restaurant and event space known as Social. Social will be opening in the historic Studio Arts Building in the heart of the entertainment district. What was once a Firehouse Subs restaurant will now become a space for Birmingham to drink, eat and mingle.
According to the Birmingham Business Journal, Social will occupy the first and second floors. We can look forward to specialty brunches and nightlife options. Be on the lookout for more updates to come.
- Location: 1928-B 11th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35205

Uncle G’s will be serving fresh-fired handmade pizzas on an appointment basis. Owner George Filliam is looking to serve pizzas at set destiations around the metro area. Make sure to follow them on social to keep up with the latest updates.
