IDK about you but I’m absolutely ready for spring weather. So much so that I’m beginning to manifest the change through my clothes. My dilemma? I haven’t been inspired to incorporate many trends into my wardrobe this season.

So, in search of inspiration, I reached out to 4 fashion-forward folks in Birmingham to find out what trends are in and how to shop the essentials now.

We ❤️ local and want to support you. If you own a local business, please add your information to our local business or our non-profit directory. It's where we will look first for up-to-date and relevant information on how the Birmingham community can support you right now.

1. Julie Maeseele

“Comfort dressing and optimism. I don’t really talk trends, but the long-lasting pandemic is definitely shaking things up in fashion. It is OK to enjoy clothes again.

A dose of optimism is so needed and that translates into our wardrobe. Bring on the color, it is time to be bold. We are dressing to feel good and be comfortable.

Be on the lookout for JM spring sets, stylish sweatsuits and color.”

Julie Maeseele,

Hand-dyed Jumpsuit (Coral) | $245
Cropped Square Top | $150
Stephanie Shirt Vegan Silk (Fuchsia) | $185
Hand-dyed Tunic Dress | $245

P.S. Keep an eye on their IG for warm weather garments dropping through spring/summer.

2. Alchemy

“We’re seeing lots of consumers shifting towards technical outdoor goods combined with traditional fashion pieces. Ex: A great pair of Jeans, a Cool Hoodie, Trail Runners, and a nice Wool Vintage Hat option.

With people spending more time in outdoor spaces you have to be properly layered and focus more on functionality with your pieces. Multi-Purpose Piecing is the new wave.”

Ace Graham, Owner – Alchemy

“Ralph Lauren is our newest brand partner, and we focus on elevated distribution for the brand in the State of Alabama. They’ll be a cornerstone partner for us. They’ll cover every trend in the market at Alchemy.”

4. Club Duquette

“Be aware of the trends but don’t necessarily follow them. Know your inspirations and influences and do what lights you up. We are in a rare time where truly ANYTHING GOES…

Wear what makes you feel amazing, that lifts your spirits and helps bring the most amazing you forward. By nature, it is different for each person.

Be yourself, be wild, be comfortable, be free. We think getting more expressive through fashion is an important way to present yourself to the universe.”

Morgan and Duquette Johnston, Owners – Club Duquette

“Right now we are personally into more comfort and mixing it up with luxury, whatever that means to each individual.

We love blending high and low. Comfy tees, crewneck sweatshirts, bandanas, jumpsuits, straight fit pants, Indian cotton dresses, blankets for the park, layers of jewelry and innovative expressions… and more.”
