The Cinderella of the Orchestra
Where would a stringed instrument be without its dutiful partner—the bow? Probably not on stages across the world, that’s for sure. From January 22-31, Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) expands their virtual offerings with The Bowmakers—a new feature-length documentary that follows the journey of the “silent servant” of the music world. LEGO to McWane
Building block enthusiasts, prepare to smile, because a new exhibit is stacking up at McWane Science Center. It’s called Brickology and it lets you dream, design and build with everyone’s favorite plaything—LEGOs. Details and safety guidelines here. The exhibit begins Saturday, January 23. Price is included in general admission. Tickets available online and at the door.
Bright Lights in the City
On Wednesday, January 20, Birmingham City Hall shone with green and pink lights in honor of our nation’s first female and Black/South Asian Vice President Kamala Harris and her sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), Incorporated. Now through January 23, city hall will don red, white and blue lights to welcome the Biden Administration. Put on your sunnies and check out the lights.
Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Wiener…
Break out the ketchup, the Wienermobile is in Birmingham. It made its grand appearance on January 19 and the response has been, well, pretty franktastic! It will be making pitstops around the Magic City until Saturday, January 23, so be sure to squeeze in a visit and score a tasty dog, Wiener Whistle + more.
