Looking for the latest beer buzz around Birmingham? From new breweries coming to Hoover and Pelham to a new craft beer store in Jasper, caps off to your latest beer roundup.

Brock’s Gap Brewing Company headed to Hoover

Word on the street (courtesy of our friends at The Hoover Sun) is that Brock’s Gap Brewing Co. LLC is bringing a new brewery to Hoover. The owners are Jamie Cato and Michael Blumenthal.

According to The Hoover Sun, Brock’s Gap Brewing Co. is Cato’s first brewery venture, but he plans to bring world-class beer and quality events to the city of Hoover. They also reported that Cato is teaming up with brewmaster Brian Watson—owner of many breweries and winner of over 100 international beer awards.

On Monday, October 12, the Hoover Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend the city council allow the development.

There’s more to come on whether or not the brewery and tap room will be fully approved. A full city council proposal hearing will take place on November 16.

Back in March 2020, we discovered that Pelham would soon be opening Oak Mountain Brewing Company. Located around the corner from the Pelham Civic Complex, Oak Mountain State Park and Oak Mountain Amphitheater, it’s the perfect spot for locals to grab a beer.

So what’s the story now? Well, the pandemic may have slowed things down a bit, but the brewery is back on track and working hard to open its doors.

The new brewery will feature:

  • Taproom
  • Food trucks
  • Live music

Though an exact opening date has yet to be revealed, based on the brewery’s Facebook page, we can expect it to be any time now.

Women in the Taproom

Women are taking over taprooms all over Birmingham. One of them is Ashley Monroe, a bartender at TrimTab Brewing Company.

She recently collaborated with Cahaba Brewing Company in the Pour Us Another: Celebrating Women and Craft Beer event which focused on making the taproom more welcoming to women.

The collaboration led to the creation of two new beers:

  1. No One Puts Peachy in the Corner (Peach Rosé Sour)
  2. Sunflower Haze (Hazy IPA)

A new beer shop opened in the city of Jasper on October 13—Jasper Bottle & Tap. By its many comments on social media, the store is making quick fans.

Located in the city’s downtown entertainment district, the store features an excellent selection of craft beer and wines, including brews from popular Birmingham breweries like Avondale Brewing Co. and TrimTab Brewing Co.
