After this year, we’re all in need of a peaceful getaway—and DeKalb County is the place to do it. With some of the most beautiful outdoor offerings and fall foliage in the country, Alabama’s Mountain Town is the perfect autumn destination. They truly have a trip for everyone, and we did the work for you.

1. The Appalachian Adventure

This time of year, I want to spend as much time in nature as possible. The crisp fresh air, the fall foliage—it’s like a siren song. If you’re the type who wants to get out and enjoy the Great Outdoors, DeKalb County is for you.


Like any true adventurer, you’ll be staying off the beaten (or at least paved) path. Set up camp in one of these seven campgrounds and RV parks.

Our pick? DeSoto State Park. With incredible hiking, kayaking, fly fishing and a whole lot more, it’s an explorer’s paradise.


I’ll be the first to admit that roasted hot dogs and trail mix gets old quick. Just because you’re spending the weekend in the Great Outdoors doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy great food as well.
