Although the summer is coming close to an end, enjoying ice cream is a year-round thing. Let’s be honest. It never really gets cold until December anyways so until then you can catch us sipping on a nostalgic, classic drink—an ice cream float. Here’s where to get your hands on one (or two!) in Birmingham.
1. Steel City Pops
Steel City Pops just launched their new “Pop Floats” this summer. It’s their spin on a nostalgic dessert that can be enjoyed by all ages. They combine Coke and an all-natural, gluten-free popsicle in a cup then top it all off with whipped cream and delicious toppings. Need I say more?

2. Big Spoon
Big Spoon’s floats are about as classic as you can get. They crack open Coke (the one in the cute glass bottles), hand you your choice of ice cream and the rest is history. They’re located in Avondale and Homewood, but make sure to follow them on social to see where their food truck will be rolling around town.

3. Crestwood Pharmacy and Soda Fountain
Crestwood Pharmacy and Soda Fountain is a local one-stop-shop for your essentials, including an ice cream float. Well, at least they’re essential in my eyes. Their ice cream flavors are always changing and there’s even a vegan option.
- Location: 5502 Crestwood Blvd suite a, Birmingham, AL 35212

- Options: Takeaway only + 5 customers max inside
4. Smoosh Cookies
Smoosh Cookies opened their first Alabama location in January at Stadium Trace in Hoover. They’ve been serving up sugar rushes and sweet sips ever since. They’re known for their ice cream sandwiches, but if you have sensitive teeth like me, you know eating one isn’t as easy as some make it look. That’s when an ice cream float comes in clutch to satisfy that sweet tooth.

5. Edgewood + Mountain Brook Creamery
I’ve got the inside scoop—pun intended. Although, floats aren’t on the official menu, just ask a team member at Edgewood or Mountain Brook Creamery and they’ll make one for you. Pick your ice cream flavor, pair it with an ice-cold Coke and you’re good to go.
