It’s official—blueroot co. will open flagship location in Pepper Place this year

We love seeing Birmingham business succeed, especially when it’s as healthy + delicious as blueroot co. This woman-owned eatery will open its flagship location in Pepper Place this year, and we can’t wait. Get all the deets right here!
The Food
blueroot co. is one of our favorite Birmingham companies for healthy eats. Founded right here in our Magic City, its delicious food and positive mission has quickly made it a local favorite.
Jen Ryan, a California native, founded blueroot co. after seeing a need in Birmingham for a healthy, quick food option. I’ve been picking up their grain bowls at pop-ups whenever I get the chance, and our team members are unanimous fans of blueroot’s tahini brownies.
“Fan favorites include The Farmstand, an edible highlight reel of the best seasonal produce available from our local farmers; the Green God, an array of everything good and green, and a nod to my California roots; and the Greek Freekeh, our modern twist on a traditional Greek salad.”

You can take a peek at their menu here, but if you need suggestions, allow me to insist on my personal favorites:
- moroccan delight grain bowl
- curry chicken salad
- some like it hot sweet potato
- kimchi brussel sprouts
- dark chocolate sea salt energy bites
The New Location
In January, we shared blueroot co.’s latest developments. They were launching some new pickup locations around town and also hinting at plans for a flagship location.
Even in the midst of the craziness 2020 has brought, owner Jen Ryan managed to still make it happen. A Market at Pepper Place alum, blueroot co. is opening their brick-and-mortar location right where they started—in the heart of Pepper Place.
Opening late 2020, you can expect to see all your quick and healthy favorites on the menu. In the meantime, you can still order online here and pick up on Tuesdays or Thursdays at their Mountain Brook outpost location.
Lakeview is Buzzing
blueroot co. isn’t the only exciting opening happening in Lakeview this year. Here’s what else we’re looking forward to:
Brat Brot, our favorite German hotspot, has rebranded as Carrigan’s Beer Garden. Their grand re-opening is happening on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 & 28. Check out event details here.
Jeni’s Ice Cream is open and ready to serve up some sweet treats in Pepper Place. We’ve been looking forward to this one for a while, so you can bet we’ve already downed a scoop… or five.
