I don’t know about you, but a good hot dog has been a staple on my Memorial Day cookout plate since I can remember. We might not be able to attend the usual Memorial Day festivities, but enjoying a good hot dog is still on the table. Here are a few of our favorites in Birmingham.

1. Gus’s Hot Dogs

Gus’s Hot Dogs is a Downtown favorite. Established in 1947 by Gus Alexander, a Greek immigrant, this hot dog joint has some of the best Birmingham spirit around. Right now they are open for curbside and to-go food only. So if you’re craving a filling frank this weekend, check out Gus’s.

2. Tony’s Hot Dogs

Named one of the top 50 best hot dogs in America by Big 7 Travel in 2019, Tony’s Hot Dogs is a Birmingham favorite. The iconic hot dog joint has been located at the same spot off Montgomery Highway in Pelham for almost 27 years. And if you haven’t had a chance to check them out, now’s the time. You can support this family-owned small business by ordering a dog to-go via call-in or takeout.

3. The Standard

We’re BIG Standard fans over here at Bham Now. Before working remote, we worked out of Forge, the co-working space above The Pizitz Food Hall. We visited The Standard countless times for a hot dog/hamburger at lunch and after-work tots. Thankfully, they are offering takeout via phone or you can order online here.

If you want it, Chris Z’s probably has it. Think mouthwatering breakfast omelets, juicy double-stacked burgers, and flavorful franks you have to try. Their drive-through is open for breakfast and lunch, and you can order online here. You can also order for takeout, and trust us, you won’t be disappointed.
