Week 5: What curbside eats + drinks the Bham Now team can’t get enough of
Reading time: 4 minutes
Just because we aren’t actually going out to eat or drink at our favorite places doesn’t mean we have to quit them altogether. Here are some of the restaurants, breweries and bars serving up curbside eats and helping us get through another week.
Surviving Social Distancing: Bham Now Edition
Obviously, our team is incredibly privileged to be able to work remotely during this uncertain and scary time. We know not everyone has that option, and we are incredibly grateful to all of the first responders, nurses, volunteers and more who are continuing to go out and help others despite the dangers and risks they’re facing at this time.
Things are heavy, and we could all use a pick-me-up right now. So here’s another weekly update from the Bham Now team all about what local eats + drinks are getting them through quarantine.

“I’ve been trying to find a good balance of cooking meals at home and supporting local businesses by ordering curbside. A few curbside meals I’ve really enjoyed have been pizza from Mom’s, the fried chicken sandwich from Back 40 and a burrito from Unos Tacos!
For drinks, Lous Pub and Unos Tacos have helped me keep my at-home bar stocked.”

“Pretty sure I’m single-handedly supporting Sol Azteca in Vestavia. Ok not really, but one can only go so long without chips and salsa ya know?”

“I’ve surprisingly been cooking most of my meals at home these past few weeks. My wallet has been pretty happy with me. However, I have picked up Iron City Pizza, Unos Tacos, and Back 40 curbside. I’d easily give each of them a 10/10! “

“My family’s go-to restaurant is Rojo. The place is home. We have been eating there once a week ever since it opened. Clark, Laney and the whole staff are like family. My favorite meal? Chipotle Pork & Mushroom Burrito or the Paella. The Paella is enough for two meals—very sharable.
Couple of interesting facts about Rojo:
– Before the COVID-19 crisis, the restaurant regularly held fundraisers for local organizations. In 2016 they gave away $26,000!
– Rojo has a soccer team. Their arch-rival in the Homewood Adult Soccer League? The downtown coffeehouse – Urban Standard.”

“The Louis Bar old fashioned kit. 15 cocktails for $30 is just a steal!”

“My favorite curbside pick-up by far is the chicken rice bowl from Pho Pho in The Pizitz. I got to see my favorite girls from The Louis Bar (at a distance) when I picked it up too, which really brightened my day.
I’m also super excited about a few items I ordered from Basic. I love shopping sustainably when possible and their back2basic consignment shop has awesome pieces. “

“We love Taco Mama, so we’ve been ordering from them a lot and picking it up curbside. They have the perfect quarantine option right now—a taco/nacho box. It comes with so much food and more chips than you could ever eat. It will definitely feed everyone in your house for a few days.
I also have this pic… look at the size of the chip bag! 😂 We literally had to fill 3 gallon size bags with the leftovers.”
