Got the winter blues, Birmingham? Make the most of it with Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year, Classic Blue. Here’s what to know about the color of the year, plus how to shop the trend locally in Birmingham.

Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year is… *drum roll, please* …Classic Blue!

We’re almost two months into 2020, and with a new decade comes a new Color of the Year from Pantone. Since 2000, Pantone has released a “color of the year” each year. Last year, the Color of the Year was Living Coral—read all about it here.

According to a 2014 Q&A in Glamour Magazine with Leatrice Eiseman, then-executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, the color is chosen based on the prevalence of that color in many industries—including fashion, film and art—just to name a few.

The goal? To capture the zeitgeist of the times in a Pantone color card. And for 2020, they chose Classic Blue.

“It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection… It highlights our desire for this dependable, anchoring foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. We’re living in a time that requires trust and faith and confidence.”

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute | TIME Magazine
