Where to find deals on baby gear in Birmingham

Anyone with a baby—or baby on the way—knows that a little bundle of joy requires a LOT of gear. Carrier, stroller, car seat, crib, high chair… the list goes on. The costs can add up quickly—here’s where you can find some deals in Birmingham!

1) Trading Groups

If you have a little one and you’re not a member of one of the Facebook trading groups in town, you’re missing out. Mountain Brook Trading, Vestavia Trading and Shelby County Marketplace come to mind, and there are several others. Search Facebook to find one in your area. 

You can also check out Facebook Marketplace for some deals, too.

If going to a stranger’s house to pick up an item you’ve purchased online isn’t your cup of tea, note that internet purchase meetup spots have been popping up around Birmingham in recent months. 

2) Consignment Sales

Spring consignment sales are upon us! There are at least a dozen of these coming up in the Birmingham area over the next few months. Check out this list to find out when and where. You can find clothing, toys, books, strollers and more at these sales.

3) Bargain Hunt

Though it’s headquartered in my home state of Tennessee, I’d never heard of Bargain Hunt until I moved to Birmingham. You can find discounted miscellaneous baby gear here, and the inventory is always changing. 

I recently stopped by the Crestwood location—one of three in Birmingham—and found a car seat and infant tub discounted by about 20 percent. It’s worth checking out, even if you have to do some digging!

Now on to the Obvious

Of course there are always the tried-and-true stores like TJ Maxx, and you can check out Target, Buy Buy Baby and Walmart’s sales, but if you want to think out of the (big) box, know that there are options available.
