Craft a delicious house during Santa’s Gingerbread Workshop, December 14 and 21
It’s time for one of McWane Science Center’s sweetest holiday traditions—Santa’s Gingerbread Workshop.
Making gingerbread houses with my husband and daughter is one of my favorite holiday activities. It’s pretty tasty, too!
On Saturday, December 14 and Saturday December 21 from 11AM-3PM, you and your family can create sweet memories while constructing your very own masterpiece. All it takes is some gingerbread, candy decorations and imagination.
To take part in Santa’s Gingerbread Workshop:
- Pre-order your gingerbread house. Houses are $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
- At checkout, select which date you’d like to attend—Saturday, December 14 or Saturday, December 21.
- Show up at McWane Science Center on your designated day and your gingerbread house will be waiting for you.
Price of gingerbread houses is not included in cost of admission. Purchase your tickets to McWane Science Center online or when you arrive.

Witness the Magic of The Polar Express at the IMAX
When the Polar Express comes to McWane Science Center, there’s just one thing to do—climb aboard!
This December, journey beyond your imagination during The Polar Express Special IMAX Screenings.
Based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, The Polar Express will excite all ages and spark wonder as it soars across McWane Science Center’s mighty IMAX screen.
Show time is at 3PM on December 14, 15, 21 and 22. Tickets are $9. Buy yours now!
Discover the Magic of Model Trains Exhibit, Now-January 5, 2020
Chugga, chugga, choo choo!
Do you hear that? It’s the sound of McWane Science Center’s Magic of Model Trains exhibit rolling in.
This is the 14th consecutive year that the Magic of Model Trains has chugged its way into the hearts of those in Birmingham. And this year it’s better than ever!
Experience over a dozen unique displays featuring trains of every shape and size. These working miniatures chug through expertly crafted displays that are handmade and super realistic! You’ll feel like you’ve climbed inside a brand new (and tiny!) world.

Venture Aboard the McWane Train
After you visit the miniature trains, take a ride on the McWane Train. This holiday-themed ride takes you through McWane Science Center on 200+ feet of track. What an amazing way to conclude your holiday visit to everyone’s favorite science center!
