Battle Republic in Homewood is introducing a brand new workout concept to the Birmingham area. We heard they have some amazing coaches and staff (known as the Battle Mafia), so we wanted to get to know them a little and learn what Battle Republic means to them. Check it out below.
1) Kristen Silverstein, Founding Coach
Why she joined Battle:
“I found my love for boxing while living in Dallas, TX. I never could quite find what I was looking for in a boxing gym here in Birmingham until Luan Nguyen (COO) approached me with Battle Republic’s concept and the opportunity to coach. I knew what boxing had done for me, and the thought of getting to share it with other people was kind of incredible.”
Her favorite thing about the gym: The all-inclusive community that comes to the gym to fight their battles together
Fun fact: She’s worked in the medical field since she was 19. She loves all things patient care and making people smile!
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Kristen: Traveling somewhere near or far
2) Brandon Snipes, Founding Coach
Why he joined Battle:
“I was excited about using my creativity and skills to help build a community of like-minded people. I’ve always loved coaching and fitness, and the vision for this gym was so special and unique, I couldn’t pass on it.”
His favorite thing about the gym: “For me, the workout room is a laboratory to work on my soul and spirit. In that room, we wage battle against ourselves and emerge stronger, more focused, and ultimately closer to our human potential.”
Fun fact: He’s been secretly working on a stand-up comedy routine (the secret is out now!)
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Brandon: Writing and recording music
3) Diva Reese, Front Desk
Why she joined Battle: “Culture is everything to me.”
Her favorite thing about the gym: “We train people to conquer their mental battles, not just physical hurdles.”
Fun fact: She owns her own business, Nontoxic
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Diva: Running that business
4) Abby Adams, Coach
Why she joined Battle: “What really grabbed my attention were the coaches, Leah & Kristen, to be exact. Two badass women who not only help people become better physically, but emotionally as well.”
Her favorite thing about the gym:
“It has given me that fulfillment and satisfaction I was looking for in my life. I leave each class knowing that I made at least 1 person feel good about themselves, and that gives me so much joy. There is no greater feeling in life than servant leadership, and I hope that is what I can do for our members.”
Fun fact: Abby was a gymnast for 11 years and a 2x all-around state champion in Indiana
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Abby: Outside hiking, fishing or camping, or enjoying Birmingham’s many awesome restaurants and bars
5) Lauren Scott, Coach
Why she joined Battle: She’s always loved Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and boxing. When she started working out at Battle Republic, she was hooked.
Her favorite thing about the gym:
“It’s so much more than just a fitness class. Yes, it’s an awesome (and very challenging) workout, but it is a place where you come and you leave overall feeling better not just physically, but as a whole.”
Fun fact: Lauren loves to play small jokes and pranks on people (in good fun!)
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Lauren: Hiking with her German shepherd, Jake, working at O’Neal Steel or volunteering with the Junior League of Birmingham
6) Taylor Baldwin, Front Desk
Why she joined Battle: The upbeat, positive environment
Her favorite thing about the gym: “The mission that it stands for–pushing me to be better not only in my job, but in my mental and fitness journey as well.”
Fun fact: “I’m under 5 feet tall 🤪.”
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Taylor: At UAB (where she’s a full-time student) or traveling the country for music festivals
7) Stevie Miller, Front Desk
Why she joined Battle: She’s the sister of Battle Republic’s owner and founder, Lindsey Miller, who told her about the gym
Her favorite thing about the gym: “I have the ability to turn anyone’s day around the second they walk through the door.”
Fun fact: She’s kin to Neil Armstrong somewhere down the line
When not duking it out at the gym, you will find Stevie: Jamming to live music at a concert or festival
