Big Sky Bread Company is back in Birmingham, and we know where to find them
Reading time: 3 minutes
You know how it feels when you bump into someone you used to be best friends with after you haven’t seen each other for ages? That’s how I felt when I stumbled across a hidden lair of Big Sky Bread Company products recently.
Read on for where I found them, and where else in town you can find their tasty treats.
What is Big Sky Bread Company?
The short answer is pretty much the best bakery ever. Their breads are delicious. Their granola’s to die for. The cookies and tea rings have a loyal following.
And for six years, you couldn’t really find them, at least not in a retail location, after owners Jeff and Patti Pierce closed their Mountain Brook bakery / storefront. They still kept the wholesale side going, and had a restaurant for a while. But still, their fans missed them.
So where is Big Sky Bread Company now?
Big Sky Bread Co. 2.0 (not their official name) is back and better than ever, but to get there, you’ll definitely need your GPS.
A visit to Surgical Dermatology‘s new-to-me office back in the hidden office-y recesses of Liberty Park is what led me there. My kids and I were intrigued by this tree and these stairs. We had no idea where they would lead.
The SmoothRock Center in Liberty Park is Big Sky Bread Company’s new home
Imagine my delight when we came across this little cafe area, and lo and behold, all the Big Sky Bread Company favorites from long ago.
Even though the cafe’s only open from 7AM-1:30PM, there’s a self-serve checkout on the products. Helloooooooooooo chocolate chip cookies.
And yes, they have cookies! And tea rings. And granola. Huzzah!
Yes, the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies were as good as I remembered them. What a treat to bump into an old friend on an unexpected wander down some stairs at the doctor’s office. We sat outside at a lovely deck overlooking the woods and enjoyed our treat.
Though I’ve since heard you can find them at Publix Greenwise in Mountain Brook, I have a feeling we’ll find an excuse to head back to Liberty Park soon for the SmoothRock Cafe experience.
