July 20th marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo lunar landing and mankind’s first visit to the moon. McWane Science Center will be celebrating with a full week of totally stellar activities during Apollo Week July 14-20. Daily bottle rocket launches anyone? Read on for more details and how to win tickets. It’s a blast!
Earth, Space and STEM Activities All Week Long
Starting on Sunday, July 14, McWane Science Center will take visitors on a space-filled exploration to celebrate the past, present and future of lunar exploration. What activities can you expect?
- Bottle rocket launches
- Film canister rocket launches
- Moon lander design challenges
- Moon-based Science on a Sphere presentations
- And more!
The moon-based Science on a Sphere presentation is pretty rad. Via animated images of the Earth, Moon and stars on a six-foot diameter sphere, you’ll have the chance to get as close to the moon as possible without having to actually travel there. That’ll definitely save you some time!
“As a science nerd and a science fiction buff, the Apollo landing has left a huge impression and it is part of why I do what I do here at McWane. We hope the activities during Apollo Week will inspire others just as they inspired me.”
Alia Carter, Director of Science Engagement, McWane Science Center
