The best places in Birmingham to get grilled cheese.

Whoever said grilled cheese is a kid’s meal, has clearly never met me. I don’t know about you, but give me a grilled cheese and I’ll be satisfied.

Even though I’m a fan of the classic, there are so many places that offer unique options. So, I decided to make a list of the best places to get grilled cheese in Birmingham because, if you’re like me, you’re always up for one. 

MELT

• Where: 4105 4th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35222
• Hours: 11AM-9PM Tues-Thurs, 11AM-9:30PM Fri-Sat, Closed Sun-Mon
• About: What started out as a food truck has become a Birmingham favorite. While their food truck is longer running, their restaurant in Avondale is the perfect place to get a grilled cheese, whether you’re a fan of classic or unique, you’ll find something delicious here. As you can see, I clearly enjoyed it. 

Paramount Bar

• Where: 200 20th St N, Birmingham, AL 35203
• Hours: 11AM-12AM Tues-Thurs & Sat, 11AM-1AM Fri-Sat, Closed Mon
• About: With over 20 classic and modern games to play and a delicious menu, Paramount Bar is the place for a great date night because who doesn’t like games, drinks and grilled cheese? 

Urban Standard 

• Where: 2320 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203
• Hours: 7AM-6PM  Mon-Sat, Closed Sun
• About: Need a place to take an aesthetically pleasing photo and also eat an amazing grilled cheese? This is your place. Urban Standard serves up breakfast, lunch and delicious pastries everyday in a warm and welcoming environment. 

Busy Corner Cheese & Provisions

• Where: 821 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203
• Hours: 11AM-8PM Mon-Sat, 11AM-6PM Sun
• About: Eating fancy cheese always makes me feel fancy. But don’t be fooled, they have so many options from the grilled cheese to a beautiful cheese board, making it a great lunch destination. 

Little London Kitchen

• Where & Hours: Check out their Facebook to find out where they’ll be next! 
• About: Little London Kitchen is a new food truck on the scene taking Birmingham by storm. What makes this place so special, you may ask? It’s a double decker bus from London. I’ve certainly never been on one before, which just makes it that much more fun. It’s the perfect place to try something new with authentic menu options from the UK. 

The Garage 

• Where: 2304 10th Terrace S, Birmingham, AL 35205
• Hours: 11AM-11PM Tues-Thurs, 11AM-12AM Fri, 11AM-2AM Sat, 3PM-12AM, Sun, Closed Mon
• About: The Garage is a bar that is uniquely located inside of an architectural salvage shop courtyard. I’ve never eaten a grilled cheese in a salvage courtyard, have you? Here’s your chance.

Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint

• Where: 2811 7th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233
• Hours: 11AM-2AM Sun-Sat
• About: Yes, Jack Brown’s is a burger joint, but hear me out, their grilled cheese is amazing. Grab a beer and a grilled cheese and have a great night. 

Ashley Macs

• Where: 1831 28th Ave S suite n101, Homewood, AL 35209
• Hours: 10:30AM-8PM Mon-Sat, Closed Sun
• About: A hometown favorite, Ashley Macs has so many fresh and delicious options. Whether you go for the classic or the “grown-up” grilled cheese, you’ll definitely be satisfied. 

Cheezin

• Where & Hours: Check out their Facebook to find out where they’ll be next! 
• About: A food truck all about cheese? Sign me up. USA Today named Cheezin’s grilled cheese the best in Alabama, and if that’s not enough to convince you, they have strawberry shortcake and birthday cake melts. 

Collins Bar

• Where: 2125 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203
• Hours: 4PM-12AM Mon-Thurs, 4PM-2AM Fri-Sat, 6PM-12AM Sun
• About: Collins is a great place for some casual fun, custom cocktails and tasty grilled cheese, what could be better? 

Greenhouse 

• Where: 1017 Oxmoor Rd. Suite 111, Homewood, AL 35209
• Hours: 7AM-9PM Tues-Sat, 8AM-3PM Sun, Closed Mon
• About: Greenhouse is a new restaurant in Homewood that will make you feel good from the inside-out. Their food is so fresh and the environment feels like home. 

Diplomat Deli

• Where: 1425 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216
• Hours: 10AM-8PM Mon-Sat, 11AM-3PM Sun
• About: If you’re looking for great food, fun atmosphere and a good time, Diplomat Deli is the place to be. The pairing of their grilled cheese with any one of the delicious soups will have you coming back for more.

Gilchrist

• Where: 2805 Cahaba Rd, Mountain Brook, AL 35223
• Hours: 8AM-5PM Mon-Fri, 8:30AM-5PM Sat, Closed Sun
• About: Gilchrist is the place to go for that old-fashioned feeling. From the decor to their classic soda fountain, you’ll get to step back in time for an hour or so.
