U.S. News & World Report released their 2019 high school rankings this week, and five Birmingham metro schools are on the top ten list for best high schools in Alabama! Here’s who made the cut.

Birmingham High Schools Rank High in Statewide List

U.S. News released their yearly rankings of the Best High Schools April 30 highlighting the country’s highest achieving public high schools. According to the publication, the purpose of their report is to “provide a clear, unbiased picture of how well public schools serve all of their students in preparing them to demonstrate proficiency in basic skills as well as readiness for college-level work.”

U.S. News uses a Methodology to Rank Schools Based on the Following:

  • College readiness (30% of the ranking)
  • College curriculum breadth (10%)
  • Graduation rate (10%)
  • Reading and math proficiency (20%)
  • Reading and math performance (20%)
  • Underserved student performance (10%)

No. 2 — Mt. Brook High School

  • Grades 10-12
  • Total enrollment—1,079
  • Student/teacher ratio—12:1
  • 98.77 (out of 100) on the U.S. News scorecard
  • Ranked #213 nationally
  • #53 in STEM High Schools
