Registration is now open for the first-ever Indy 5k race Friday, April 5 at the 10th annual Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. If you’d like to get up close and personal with IndyCar drivers, this is a great chance to do just that! Several drivers plan to lace up their running shoes after racing Friday to take part in the 5k on Barber Motorsports Track.

Experience the Barber Motorsports Park Like Never Before

Think running through the 2.38-mile course looks like a breeze? Think again! The track has 17 turns and 80 feet of elevation change— so it’ll be a definite challenge. The 5k race will take runners through the winding track just after racing concludes for the day.

About the Weekend

The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by AmFirst is the third racing event of the season leading up to to the Indianapolis 500. The track is said to be the best on the circuit and is hailed as “the Augusta National of Motorsports”.

If fast cars and 5ks aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other things to do at the Honda Grand Prix. Sample different vinos at “Wine Down With Indy”, take in some culture at The Grand Art Festival and see a Honda being built from start to finish in the workforce development area.  Kids of all ages will love the Surgere Fan Zone which features food, music, inflatables and a whole lot more.

Indy 5k Race Details

The Indy 5k is a chip timed race with hydration stations provided by Powerade along the course. After the race, a special social hour will take place with complimentary adult beverages and light fare along with door prizes including two  Saturday tickets to Cocina at the Track. Trackside margs and tacos from Cocina? Yes, please!

The inaugural Indy 5k is proudly presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama.

Indy 5k for a Good Cause

A portion of the proceeds from the race will go to Children’s of Alabama to provide specialized medical care for ill and injured children in Alabama.

5k Awards

Awards will be given to the top overall male and female as well as the top male and female from each category.  Overall and age group awards will not be duplicated.

  • 50 – 59
  • 60-69
  • 70+

  • Cost: $32.50 until March 31. Prices go up to $37.50 after that
