Guide to 8 live music venues in Birmingham and 17 shows to see this March including Kacey Musgraves at the Alabama Theatre

I’m a concert junkie and always up for a last minute show, but for those of you who like to plan ahead, we’ve done the work for you! Here’s your guide to music in the Magic City for March 1-31.  Time to get off that winter sofa and have some fun.

Some mainstream artists are visiting Birmingham this month, and two of them will be playing at The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex! Located downtown with their own Uptown Entertainment District next door, there’s really no shortage for things to do before or after a show at the BJCC. Eat at Cantina Laredo or grab a coffee (or cocktail) from Octane Coffee + Bar.

  • P!NK | Thursday, March 14, 7:30 PM | TIckets
  • Mumford & Sons | Saturday, March 23, 7:30 PM | Tickets

Iron City

Personally, Iron City is one of my favorite venues. It’s big enough so there’s plenty of places to get a good view, but small enough so the shows always feel intimate. I’ve seen multiple artists here, and I’ve always enjoyed it. Right around the corner is the Iron City Grill, so you can make dinner plans before the show! Their March lineup is pretty good—get tickets while you still can. Pro tip: keep an eye on our Instagram for future Iron City giveaways!

Alabama Theatre

The Alabama Theatre is one of Birmingham’s most iconic venues. Even if you haven’t seen a show here, you’ve definitely seen their historic Alabama sign out front! Located in the heart of downtown, the theatre hosts everything from live music to classic movies and even ballets. Seeing a show here is almost like a right of passage for Birminghamians. Mark your calendars because some really great acts will be stopping through in March.

You can expect to see some super fun acts this month at Saturn, one of Birmingham’s coolest venues. There are two parts to the venue: Saturn, where they host live music, and Satellite, their coffee and cocktail bar. It’s located in Avondale, and you can grab dinner right across the street at Saw’s Soul Kitchen or Post Office Pies before a show.

To understand what this Birmingham bar/venue is like, you really only need to know the name. Mom’s Basement is one of Birmingham’s newest additions to the bar/live music scene, and it’s exactly what you would imagine. There’s wood paneling, pool tables, floral sofas and a wall totally covered in old pictures of people’s moms! They are also located in Avondale and host live music events regularly. Check out their upcoming shows on their website.

The Spring Street Firehouse

This DIY live music venue is a cool find in Bham. It’s tucked away on the bottom floor of a two-story building in Avondale, and full of character. Expect a lot of rock ’n’ roll and a crowded room at the Firehouse. Check out DIY Birmingham for upcoming shows.

The Loft Show

Every month something really special happens in Birmingham: The Bham Loft Show. The goal? For each show to be unique and provide a space for all artforms to interact.
