This will be the first year of Vulcan Park and Museum’s sound-to-light Christmas show, and you don’t want to miss it. The shows will run from December 12th through the 23rd with free hot chocolate while supplies last.
What is a “sound-to-light” show?
The show will feature beloved Christmas songs, and the lights on Vulcan will dance to in harmony with the music. It’s truly a sight for eyes and the ears as you watch the lights dance around on the iconic Vulcan statue to the tune of your favorite Christmas songs.
Catch the show at the top of each hour, beginning at 5pm and ending at 9. Shows will run for 15 minutes and each night will consist of four shows — 5-5:15, 6-6:15, 7-7:15, 8-8:15 and 9-9:15.
Joe Saling, Director of Visitor Service Experience, is thrilled to provide the community with a gathering place to enjoy the holiday season.
“We anticipate this becoming a holiday tradition for the entire family. Since we are the ‘Magic City’, it is only fitting to have a magical light show.”
Saling
Opening Night Festivities Feature Photos With Santa V
On opening night, Santa V will be on hand for photos that are sure to be perfect for this year’s Christmas card! Santa V is Vulcan’s mascot, V, dressed with a Santa hat. He will be available for photos from 5 – 7pm on opening night, December 12th. The photos will be free, so get the whole family together for Christmas fun!
Why Do A Light Show?
With this event being the first Christmas event Vulcan Park and Museum has put on, it begs the question: why a light show? According to LaShana Sorrell, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, the idea originated with an email from a nurse at Children’s of Alabama:
“We received an email from a staff member at Children’s of Alabama thanking us and Kiwanis Club of Birmingham for the light shows. This nurse informed us that the kids gather around and watch the current lighting effects and shows. This letter was so heartfelt, we realized we had to do something special not only for the children who would miss being at home for the holidays, but for all of Birmingham during this great season of giving and remembrance. Marc Brickman and his team did not hesitate to create this 15-minute show with all of the classic holiday songs such as Jingle Bell Rock and many others.”

This amazing show is made possible through the generous support from Kiwanis of Birmingham and their gift of the dynamic lighting package.
