Harry Potter has a birthday coming up next week, and Birmingham is READY for it. Whether you’re a casual Hogwarts enthusiast or know the game of Quidditch backwards and forwards, here are a couple local spots celebrating ‘The Boy Who Lived”s birthday (note: if you’re a fan of He Who Shall Not Be Named, you likely aren’t invited).

Harry Potter Night! at Black Market Bar and Grill  in Five Points celebrates HP a few times a year and this particular FREE event packed the house last year. Costume contest, themed food and drink and trivia with prizes. This Harry Potter Night is free to the public so get there early to ensure a good seat for trivia.

Harry Potter’s Birthday Celebration at The Heavenly Donut Co. is the most exclusive HP party outside of Hogwarts. The store will be sectioned all and fully decorated for those there for the party. Every party guest will be sorted into their house with a “sorting hat” donut (SO cute), receive a magic wand, chocolate frog, a golden snitch donut cake-pop, and homemade ButterBeer. Not only is the next week the perfect time to celebrate Harry’s birthday, but also the time to recognize the 20th anniversary of the very first Harry Potter book release. 2nd and Charles and Books-a-Million waste no opportunities to celebrate these milestones. The 2nd and Charles event will feature house sorting, wand-making and potion-making. On top of the magical activities from the Harry Potter universe, Books-a-Million’s Harry Potter 20 Years of Magic Celebration will offer awesome deals of rare collector’s items through ALL of July and August.

Harry Potter’s Birthday Celebration at Dreamcakes Bakery

Dreamcakes Bakery, owned by Harry’s distant cousins Jan and Dwight Potter, is celebrating Harry Potter’s Birthday Tuesday July 31. 

Celebrate with Dreamcakes by picking a sorting hat cupcake. When you bite into it, it will magically show you which of the four houses of Hogwarts you belong.

Dreamcakes will have ButterBeer cupcakes, Golden Snitch cupcakes, and Sorting hat cupcakes. 

Buy any of the 3 special Harry Potter cupcakes and get a souvenir photo with the sorting hat and use any of the Dreamcakes props. 

Try to guess the flavor of the Bertie Botts Bean and win a prize. Dreamcakes will have toy wands. glasses, free cupcakes and of course CHOCOLATE Frogs.
