Walk-On’s, sports bar from Louisiana plans 3 locations in Birmingham
Originating in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar plans several new locations in Birmingham. The sports themed restaurant and bar with a family friendly environment and a cajun flavor, will be another lively spot to enjoy a good meal, and to watch our favorite teams play.
Walk-On’s plans up to three locations in Birmingham, that will serve Louisiana style classics like gumbo, red beans and rice, crawfish etouffee, po’ boys, fried alligator, and of course burgers, sandwiches, wraps and salads. Looks like the first location will be on US 280 in the Hoover area.

Never ones to shy away from competition, at their Louisiana locations diners can try to complete the Final Four challenge: complete a 2-foot sandwich of shrimp, crawfish, and catfish served with cheese fries, a cookie skillet sundae, and a 32-ounce Coke in less than 30 minutes and the meal is on the house!
Walk-On’s was just an idea, two friends, Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, talked about when they found themselves sitting the bench, as non scholarship walk-on players for the LSU Tigers basketball team.
Their website tells the story of how this idea became a reality, with 15 locations in Louisiana and Texas. While in college the two had a class together that required a concept project for a retail or business start-up. Their idea was a sports bar, that really focused on good food and great customer service. They would call this passion project, Walk-On’s.
Though they earned a C on their assignment, their professor encouraged them to not be discouraged. In fact he joined the pair, to refine and rework their ideas. In 2003, after struggling to find financing, their project became a reality. They opened the first Walk On’s right next to the LSU football stadium.
Now Walk-On’s is headed our way! In 2012 ESPN awarded Walk-On’s as the best sports bar in America in their mobile contest.
In 2015 they brought in a new partner and co-owner of the company, a native of Louisiana and one of the greatest NFL Quarterbacks of all time; Drew Brees.
Looks like Walk-On’s has an impressive Bham franchise ownership line-up!
Along with long-time business, and restaurant entrepreneurs, Kirk Broussard, Jacob Cutrera, Johnny Cutrera and Matt Roth, the Birmingham Walk-On’s franchise also has some professional sports players investing in the restaurant.
Former Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers place kicker Josh Scobee, LSU All-American and Chicago Bears safety Craig Steltz, and PGA golfer Smylie Kaufman.
Where would you like to see Walk-On’s set up shop in the Birmingham area?
