You may recognize her as the woman  Jennifer Lawrence portrayed in the movie “Joy”, about Mangano’s life before and after she invented the Miracle Mop.

Joy is a celebrated product designer who, as a struggling single mother of three, laid the groundwork for what would become a global business empire. She is now one of the most powerful brands on direct-to-consumer content retailer HSN and has generated over $3 billion in product sales worldwide.

Her Story

I spoke to Joy on the phone last week, and we talked about her new book, the power of self-confidence and ignoring the negative voices in your head.

All About Joy

Throughout her inspirational rags-to-riches story, Joy points out her very own personal light-bulb moments—lessons she learned the hard way. Her book spills her secrets to success in life, family and work. When we spoke, she shared a few of those secrets with Bham Now.

“I believe that every day is a gift, because every day I get to wake up and chase my dreams,” said Joy. “But it’s not easy, and there is never a clear path and that can be scary.

“I hope that by giving a little window into my life—how I think and work and live—I might help others realize that they, too, can create a world that is a little better and a little brighter for themselves and those around them.”

She also told us how to quiet those fears you may have when it comes to pursuing your personal and professional goals.

“We all have it in us to be brave and courageous and to have confidence,” Joy said. “So we just have to really learn how to pull it out. When we’re children we try many things, and if we fail, we don’t care, right? If we’re building blocks and they fall down, we just put them back up again.

“As adults, we have that little voice that stops us. Just back that voice down and have the confidence. Because, if you don’t do anything, you will get nowhere for sure. That’s one-hundred percent sure. But, at least the odds are better when you have the confidence to try.”

Want more of Joy? Me, too! She’s such an inspiration to working women, and her story is one you have to hear in person before reading her book.
