Some good news to report concerning wind gusts from Nate this morning.

Below are new maps and postings from the National Weather Service in Birmingham (NWS) that were released this morning on the impact Nate will have on the Birmingham region.  The maps were released at 8:11am.  The good news – the NWS has “lowered” their forecast for wind speeds.

Here is the latest posting from NWS Birmingham at 7:20am.

“Looking at surrounding observations as the center of Nate moves into SW counties, the system is rapidly weakening. That’s good news in terms of our impacts. So far, the highest wind gust that we’ve seen is 45mph at Selma. We’ll be revising our forecast accordingly later this morning. That being said, we don’t want anyone to let their guard down. Still expecting wind gusts high enough to bring down trees/power lines. Also, the tornado threat will remain generally from Lowndes County northward to Chilton, Talladega, Calhoun, and points southward.”
