Birmingham high school students to join UAB Marching Blazers for all-star band day
Reading time: 2 minutes
At UAB’s football game Saturday, September 16th, local high school band members will get the opportunity to march with the UAB Marching Blazers.
UAB Blazers
The UAB Blazers will be playing Coastal Carolina University at Birmingham’s Legion Field Stadium on Saturday. But this game’s entertainment will be different from the rest.
This Saturday’s game is All-Star Band Day, which gives extraordinary high school band students the chance to march with the UAB Marching Blazers.
All-Star Band Day
Close to 200 students will get to march with the Blazers and will get experience working with college band directors.
Students observe the UAB Marching Blazer’s morning rehearsal before rehearsing as a group. They not only perform the halftime show together but also are included in the Blazer Walk and pre-game performances.
Homewood High School’s band will have several students joining the All-Star band on Saturday.
Each year we have students participate in the band day opportunities offered by colleges and universities.
It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to get to know the college and university instructors and how much fun university bands can be. We have had many students march in college and university bands.
-Ron Pence, Director of band at Homewood High School
All marching band members are welcome as well as color guard, majorettes, and dancers or drill team members.
Each student will represent their school by wearing their marching band’s uniform.
Head out to the game on Saturday to support UAB football, the UAB Marching Blazers, and Birmingham’s high school band students! Kickoff is at noon Central time.
