Grand Opening of the Elyton Hotel

Have you heard of the Heaviest Corner on Earth? Well, the Empire building turned Elyton Hotel is one of the four skyscrapers on the corner that made it famous.

The new luxury hotel on the corner of First Avenue North and 20th Street North has announced that it will make its grand opening next Wednesday, July 12th.

Ascent hospitality’s John Tampa said of the Elyton hotel,

“The classical revival building is a treasured landmark of those days, and we are thrilled to revive it as a luxury hotel worthy of its rich history. It will be unlike any other hotel experience in Birmingham,”

The name of the new hotel honors the city predating Birmingham and Elyton Land Co., which, in the 1870s, helped shape it into the Magic City it is today.

Denise Vandersall, general manager of The Empire said,

“But beyond pairing The Empire with a restaurant, we wanted to bring another distinct dining option to downtown. The restaurant will serve the hotel’s visitors, but the vision is for it to be a fixture on the Birmingham dining scene.”

The Elyton’s rooftop bar, Moon Shine, will serve small plates and wood-fired pizzas also crafted by Magee.  Both Moon Shine and the Yard open July 19th, so get ready for panoramic views of downtown and some amazing food.
