Arc Stories: a better way to spend your Saturday night
One Saturday night a month, Arc Stories fills the Avon theater and people from all over Birmingham come to hear regular people tell their own stories. So change up your normal weekend plans, forgo the concerts, bars, and coffee shops and spend an hour or two immersed in story!
What is Arc Stories?
Arc Stories is a Birmingham-based organization that empowers ordinary individuals to tell their stories in an engaging and impactful way.
Their mantra is that everyone has great stories and that anyone can tell them well. Speakers work with Arc Stories’ very own story coaches who help them make their stories the best they can be.
More than just an entertaining event, Arc Stories endeavors to attract a community of people who encourage storytellers for being bold and stepping up to the mic.
This past Saturday they hosted A Word to Your Mother: stories about moms in preparation for Mother’s day. Seven speakers prepared the audience for Mother’s Day with hilarious and heartwarming stories about motherhood.
Topics ranged from the creation of formal dresses to battles with cancer to hilarious stories of wives in labor. Although all the stories were fantastic, my favorite was Audrey Erwin’s story about a beach trip with her mother and an unexpected surprise that almost went wrong.
Think it can’t get any better?
It does! In addition, each event partners with a nonprofit and part of the proceeds go to support that organization! Saturday’s nonprofit was Heart Gallery Alabama, which helps to find adoptive families for kids in Alabama foster care. Interested? Learn more here.
Oh, and Church Street Coffee sells their famous breakup cookies at every event.
