If you don’t think Bowling is a sport, tell that to the five UAB students and their coach that will be fighting for a spot on the United States Bowling Congress Team USA this week.

Bowling was amongst the sports teams that were cut from the UAB Athletic Program in Fall 2014. Since reinstatement, the UAB Bowling Team officially returned to being nationally ranked this past season. A great confidence boost for those heading into the Team USA trials.

The five students that are competing include Madeleine McDuff (Jr.), Caitlin Cunningham(Fr.), Taylor Russel (Fr.), Rachel Strongin (Fr.), and Sierra Lewis (Fr.). With their head coach, Michelle Lewis, alongside them competing as well.

Team USA is an elite group of athletes that will represent the USA in international competition. An amazing feat for the UAB team members.

The tournament started on January 3rd in Henderson Nevada. By the 8th, we’ll know who made the cut. There are 12 spots up for grabs as well as a coaching seat. Last year’s team did not have a member from the state of Alabama. Maybe this year that will change.
