The effort to sell the Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) campus has widened.

A real estate brokerage and investment banking firm based in New York has been hired to market the sale of the campus.

In a press release marketing the sale, Keen-Summit Capital Partners LLC, tells potential suitors that the purchase of BSC is an extraordinary opportunity “to acquire the largest college campus for sale in the United States.”

Since the closure of the 168-year-old institution on May 31,  Alabama A&M University and Miles College have publicly expressed interest in purchasing the campus.

On July 11, A&M ended its quest after proposing a $65 million financial package to buy it.

In June, Miles College signed a letter of intent (LOI) to start negotiating the possible purchase of the campus. As of August 6th, there has been no word from the neighboring  126-year-old private liberal arts HBCU in Fairfield about any progress on the negotiations.

What’s next for the BSC campus?

No one knows, but by hiring a nationally renowned real estate firm they have expanded their options. According to David Levy, Managing Director of Keen-Summit Capital Partners LLC the campus can be used for a variety of ways, including:

  • College or university looking to expand or establish a satellite medical, technology, life science or other specialties
  • Sports Academy
  • Boarding school

At the end of the release, BSC President Daniel Coleman described his hope for the beloved campus.

“We are working hard to ensure this campus continues to be an amenity for Birmingham, whether that be with another college user or an adaptive reuse. As reported, we have interest from local colleges and universities and have also launched a national and international marketing campaign to attract interest from other potential buyers.”
