The mood at the Thursday press conference for the 78th Annual Magic City Classic was somber. The evening before, after a week of Amber Alerts and searching, Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney, a little 3 year old girl who had been abducted from a birthday party was found dead in a landfill.
Birmingham was heartbroken.

A few weeks ago it was announced by the city of Birmingham that there is a budget of $800,000 for the Annual 77th Magic City Classic. The event is the largest HBCU football game, between Alabama A&M University (AAMU) and Alabama State University (ASU) with an estimate of 100,000 people in attendance every year.
It’s time for the nation’s biggest HBCU Classic game!
A good friend of mine once described the Magic City Classic as the world’s largest “family reunion.”
For this year’s 75th Anniversary that means an anticipated crowd of 100,000 people attending pre and post game events and of course the big game between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University.
