Program Director, AL- Priority Veteran

Position Summary

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the program serving homeless veterans and military families.
  • Develop statewide partner networks, ensure program compliance, manage site operations, staffing, and budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage a team of 20+ staff providing rapid rehousing and prevention case management services to 600+ homeless or at-risk veterans annually.
  • Ensure effective team management in Alabama.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the local Veterans Administration and Homeless Continuums of Care in the service area.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with federal, state, and community-based organizations to promote effective services to veterans.
  • Increase awareness and capacity of Priority Veteran as a resource for veterans and military families.
  • Review grant spending and financial reports to ensure timely and accurate use of federal funds.
  • Ensure compliance with funding sources including local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with CARF regulations and guidelines.
  • Implement the PV strategic plan for Alabama.
  • Oversee the outcomes of all program activities to ensure objectives are met.
  • Coordinate the Continuous Quality Improvement Plan for the Alabama program.
  • Ensure program operations are efficient and that data and reports are accurate.
  • Assist with reporting required by SSVF, VA, and CARF.
  • Support the VP of Development and Compliance with data entry, report generation, and grant applications.
  • Actively participate in fund development supporting the work of Priority Veteran.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven management experience, including supervising large or tiered teams.
  • Knowledge of case management best practices, including trauma-informed care and person-first approach.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, policies, and funding requirements.
  • Proven community development, presentation, and networking skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Client Management System.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local veteran and military family programs (preferred).

Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree required in a service-related field (e.g., social work, counseling, business administration, public administration); License preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of relevant professional work experience including program management, development, supervision, and agency resource development. Military experience preferred.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with occasional after-hours/weekend work.
  • Travel required.

Requirements

  • Must meet and maintain eligibility requirements to be insured by UWCA’s insurance.
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance commensurate with state law.
  • Background checks to include but not limited to criminal record, drug screen, and TB testing.
