Are you a self-starting go-getter with lots of initiative who wants to work with an energetic + creative team at Birmingham’s modern media company?
Bham Now is looking for a breaking news intern who can write engaging content on the subjects Bham Now covers (not politics or crime) about the Greater Birmingham area.
Interns are paid $15 an hour if you are a college senior. No benefits provided.
Work up to 25 hours per week for the summer semester. Office-based + must have own transportation and equipment.
Weekend work may be required.
Skills | qualifications | attributes
- Senior in journalism (or equivalent experience) with a nose for news
- Journalism Major desired
- Good knowledge of the Greater Birmingham metro area—neighborhoods, organizations, businesses, events, etc.
- Excited to get out into the community to find stories
- Ready to pitch solid breaking stories daily
- Able to organize + write a story in the Bham Now style + tone quickly with minimal supervision
- Know how to make a story relevant + engaging to our audience
- Ready to pick up the phone to talk to strangers
- Happy to run out to take photos or grab an interview at a moment’s notice
- Eager to attend press conferences
Bonus points if you’re:
- Willing to work off-hours to get a story out quickly, including on the weekends (this will count toward your 25h total)
