- AGA/USGA P.J. Boatwright Internship: Tournament Operations

Description
These positions provide exposure to all aspects of golf administration, with a primary focus on assisting AGA staff in managing:
- AGA Championships
- JGA Tour
- SGA Championships
- USGA Qualifying Events
Location: AGA Office in Hoover, AL (Birmingham suburb)
Responsibilities
- Tournament Operations:
- Course marking and setup
- Tournament signage assembly and placement
- Creating starting times and pairings (using Golf Genius software)
- Starting and scoring players
- On-course officiating
- Volunteer coordination
- Pace-of-play monitoring
- Preliminary office preparations
- Travel:
- Fully traveling internship with minimal time at the AGA office.
- Leadership Projects:
- Act as the Official-in-Charge at tournaments (under staff oversight).
- Education:
- Develop Rules of Golf knowledge.
- Gain exposure to other departments: Handicapping, Marketing & Communications, Course Rating.
- Work Schedule:
- Non-traditional hours, 40-60 hours per week, based on tournament assignments.
- Supervision: Reports to Sr. Director of Golf Operations and Championships.
Job Requirements
- Must live in the Birmingham Metro Area during the internship.
- Possess strong work ethic, communication skills, and teamwork ability.
- Willingness to travel, work early mornings, weekends, and in extreme weather.
- Golf background or Rules of Golf knowledge preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift and manage equipment (up to 50 pounds).
- Must be an amateur golfer (PGM students eligible; PGA professionals/apprentices ineligible).
Compensation
- $2,250 per month
- Medical benefits available at an additional cost.
- Work-related travel expenses covered (meals, lodging, mileage).
- Staff clothing provided:
- AGA (Polo Ralph Lauren)
- SGA (Holderness & Bourne)

About the P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship Program
Established by the USGA in 1991, this program provides short-term, entry-level opportunities for individuals pursuing careers in golf administration. It also supports state and regional golf associations in promoting amateur golf.
