Senior Consumer Compliance Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Consumer Compliance Specialist reviews the Bank’s adherence to its policies and procedures as well as its compliance with federal and state regulations. The position administers the Bank’s Compliance Management Program and tests regularly to provide feedback to managers and senior management. The Specialist helps ensure that the Bank is compliant, prepared for examinations and positioned to earn strong compliance and Community Reinvestment Act ratings.

The incumbent will:

  • Examine policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with laws and regulations
  • Stay abreast of changes to federal and state banking laws and regulations affecting the management, operations and product offerings of the Bank; recommend updates or policy changes as appropriate
  • Coordinate with operating departments to ensure adherence to laws and regulations relating to new or revised products and services offerings
  • Work with external auditors and examiners to coordinate necessary documentation and responses
  • Coordinate and support the Compliance Management Program, including compliance training, compliance testing and reporting, disaster recovery, contingency planning and records warehousing and destruction
  • Arrange compliance audits and prepare reports for the Management and Compliance Committees
  • Audit records and interview personnel to ensure recording of transactions and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Conduct Fair Lending Reviews including comparative file analysis to detect outliers, anomalies and trends
  • Develop Job Aids for Departments that make compliance with regulations easier and more efficient
  • Assist Compliance Director in performing Compliance and Fair Lending Risk Assessments
  • Update Compliance Policies and Procedures as needed
  • Analyzes data obtained for evidence of deficiencies in controls, duplication of effort, extravagance, fraud or lack of compliance with laws, government regulations and management policies or procedures
  • Conduct including special studies for management as needed to assess compliance risk such as those required to discover mechanics of detected fraud and to develop controls for fraud prevention
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or five years’ related experience
  • Five (5) or more years of related experience in a compliance role
  • In depth background in credit, risk and compliance
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) certification or the willingness to work towards obtaining the certification.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Advanced auditing skills with work record of progressive responsibility
  • Knowledge and training in all bank regulations, activities and terminology
  • Experience working with all levels of an organization; as well as external auditors in order to ensure cooperation and timely responses
  • Excellent communication skills, as demonstrated in experience preparing reports, documenting policy and communicating regulatory updates or audit responses
  • Knowledge of related federal and state lending and compliance regulations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The physical requirements and environmental conditions of this position consist primarily of:

  • Sustained standing and sitting
  • Frequent use of PC, including typing or sustained attention to monitor
  • Occasional presentations requiring public speaking to small groups
  • Occasional lifting of basic office files or equipment up to 20 lbs
  • Normal office environment with comfortable internal temperatures and low level noise
  • May require some overnight travel
