While stained glass is best known as a decorative art form, it also has the functionality of cutting down the amount of light depending on certain glasses. Opaque glass for example can reduce the amount of light while the glass itself remains bright and brilliant all from the effects of being backlit. Where there’s art there’s usually a utilitarian use for it! in this case students taking this class will discover how far stained glass can be used to construct a multi panel lamp shade. In this class students will be shown the various steps of application and the processes used. With this knowledge it will be up to the students to design and fabricate each piece used to create a functional piece. 3-D wooden Forms might be utilized to help produce the shape of the lamp shade but students are otherwise free to design and use any glass or pattern they want. Templates will be available to those requests or prefer a more structured and hands on approach. No prerequisites are required though a intermediate course is strongly suggested. Students who don’t finish or who don’t have the time in one day are welcome to come in the next class day or open hours to complete their projects.
