If you’ve been around Birmingham’s Parkside District this week, you’ve likely noticed that something big is happening.

Over the past week, artists both local and from beyond Alabama have been hard at work transforming the blank walls around Urban Supply, THRIVE Coworking, Fairway Social and Up-Down Arcade Bar into large-scale works of art for the inaugural Yonder Walls Mural Festival.

Happening Saturday, October 17, 2026, the mural festival is your chance to see these completed murals for the first time, meet the artists, enjoy live music and much more.

Oh, and did I mention it’s FREE to attend?

Read on to learn more about Yonder Walls Mural Festival and see photos of the artists in action!

Announced earlier this year, Yonder Walls is Birmingham’s largest-ever mural festival. Founded by local muralists Sean Gilder, Levi Levinson and Jordan Thompson of Bendy Knees Design Co., Yonder Walls was created to help shine a spotlight on the artistic talent already here in Alabama while creating more opportunities for artists to build sustainable creative careers.

β€œArtists in Alabama don’t always have access to the large-scale, paid opportunities needed to build sustainable creative careers, and Yonder Walls was created to help change that! We want artists to be able to build careers here at home and that starts with providing access and opportunity.”

What is a mural festival, you ask? Put simply, it’s a unique opportunity for artists to transform a previously-blank part of town into vibrant works of public art. Throughout this past week, 40+ artists from Birmingham and beyond have transformed the stark white walls and blank brick facades of two blocks along 1st Avenue South between 12th and 14th Street South with vibrant colors and their own unique style.
