A new boutique mall is taking over the former Painted Tree Boutiques space on US-280. The Collective Boutiques will hold a soft opening open to the public Saturday, Oct. 24, at the River Ridge Shopping Center.

The store will fill the storefront between Academy Sports and Marshalls that Painted Tree closed in April less than a year after opening. The Birmingham location was Alabama’s only Painted Tree and housed more than 200 vendors. Painted Tree closed more than 60 stores nationwide.

The Collective Boutiques formed after those closures and has taken over 13 of the shuttered Painted Tree locations, according to the Williamson Herald, and River Ridge is one of them. The company’s CEO, Melanie Greer, was a shop owner in all 61 Painted Tree locations and helped launch the new company within weeks of the closures, the Herald reported.

How The Collective Boutiques works for shop owners

The company describes itself as a group of independent shop owners under one professionally managed roof. Its website lists these terms:

A flat 10% commission on gross sales, with monthly settlements
Store staffing, point-of-sale, marketing, security and sales tax remittance handled by the company, so shop owners don’t have to be on-site
First month’s rent + 50% deposit due at lease signing, with the deposit refunded within 30 days after a clean move-out
Free applications, with a “selective” review process

Shop owners can apply and view the River Ridge floor map on the company’s website.

The River Ridge store will be the company’s only Alabama location. The company lists 12 other stores across six states:

The company’s website notes that its dates are estimates and can shift because of permitting, inspections, construction and weather. It doesn’t list a grand opening date for River Ridge.
