Ricky Bromberg, President of Alabama’s oldest business + Bham civic leader, dies at 67

Frederick (Ricky) Wilkinson Bromberg, President of Bromberg & Co., Alabama’s oldest business, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 67 years old.

Born on August 16, 1959 in Birmingham, Bromberg led the family business for decades and was deeply involved in Birmingham civic and church life.

About Ricky Bromberg

Ricky personified the Rotary International motto—“service above self”—as a proud member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham. Whether it was customers, employees, family, neighbors or community, Ricky showed up for all of them.

In an interview with Bham Now back in February 2026 about renovations to Bromberg’s iconic Mountain Brook jewelry store, Ricky told us he was excited about the future and the newly renovated store.

“It’s going to be one of the most attractive jewelry stores in the country. This is a major project for us. There’s a little pain getting there, but it’s going to be worth it in the end. It’s going to be spectacular.”

A lifelong member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, he became Senior Warden in 2026, a role he called “the honor of a lifetime,” according to his obituary.

“He was a fantastic senior warden. He really was a man of integrity, and that was evidenced n his faithfulness, in his humility and in his interest in the well-being of others before himself.”

Friends of Ricky told Bham Now that he was kind, generous and faithful to God and his family. They also said he could be very funny, with a wonderful sense of humor.

• Chairman of the Alabama Retail Association 
• President of the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce
• Director and Treasurer of the downtown City Action Partnership
• American Gem Society
• Retail Jewelers Research Group
• Alabama Goodwill Industries
• Birmingham Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America
• Co-Chair of the capital campaign for Bethany at Camp McDowell, the Diocese of Alabama church camp 

Ricky is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Bromberg; his son, Frederick Wilkinson Bromberg, Jr. (Wil), and his wife, Kathrine Ford Reeves Bromberg (Katie) and his grandchildren, Lella Elizabeth Bromberg and Reeves Hardy Bromberg.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. Visitation will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 Sixth Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203, or to a charity of your choice.
