Popular nonstop flights to major Southwest city return to BHM in November

Planning your next holiday vacation just got a little easier. This week, the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) announced that the popular nonstop flights to Phoenix, Arizona through major low-cost air carrier Southwest Airlines will resume starting in November.
Southwest to resume nonstop flight from Birmingham to Phoenix
Looking to travel west this holiday season? Starting in November, you can catch a nonstop Southwest flight out of Birmingham to Phoenix, Arizona—a major Southwestern hub and the fifth-largest city in the United States, with over 1.6 million residents.
In 2024, Southwest Airlines announced new flights to Phoenix, AZ and Nashville, TN, in an effort to reduce overbooked flights during the busy holiday season. Offered from November through early spring, the nonstop flight to Phoenix typically takes roughly four hours of flight time.
Improvements coming to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM)
To make future trips through the airport easier, the Birmingham Airport Authority (BAA) Board has approved the purchase of a new Parking Guidance System (PGS) to make finding a space in the parking deck easier and more efficient. The new PGS will deliver real-time parking availability information using a camera-based system and Smart Sensor LED lights to lead drivers to open spaces.

designing an overall program that will eventually increase capacity. Parking is a very important part of the overall customer experience, and we are doing the work to assure that we can offer a quality product for travelers well into the future.”
The installation of the new PGS is expected to take 18 months, with an anticipated live date in December of 2027.
