By now, you may have heard about the new-to-Birmingham bank, Fifth Third, which launched its Alabama expansion here in 2024 with a commercial office. A private banking office followed in April, and Fifth Third now celebrates another big milestone with its first Birmingham retail branches.

All three locations are off Highway 280 to the east of Vestavia Hills: The Patchwork Farms branch is just south of the 280/I-459 intersection; Liberty Park is just north of The Summit, and the Tattersall Park branch is the furthest south near State Route 119. The bank will host ribbon cuttings with food, prizes and more for two of the new branches this week, Aug. 25-26, 2026, with a third in September.

Read on to learn where to be and when, and get some insights on how this bank has been settling into the Magic City so far.

Fifth Third began its Southeast expansion strategy in 2018. In Birmingham specifically, the bank started building business relationships with its commercial office first and eventually expanded into private banking. In the meantime, the team strategically planned its local retail locations to serve the greater community.

“The most common question I get is ‘Why Birmingham?’ and the answer is simple: We believe in Birmingham. We see tremendous opportunity here, and we’re committed to being a long-term partner for the individuals, families, businesses and organizations that make this community strong.

While every market is unique, our growth in Birmingham reflects Fifth Third’s long-term strategy of investing thoughtfully and building a strong foundation before expanding our presence. It’s a testament to the confidence we have in this community and its future.”

Step inside a Fifth Third banking center, and you’ll immediately notice how it doesn’t look or feel like a traditional bank branch, starting with an open-concept design featuring a transaction bar instead of a traditional teller line.

The banking center design offers a more modern, approachable space where clients can seamlessly choose between digital banking and personalized, in-person service.

With so many people doing routine banking on their phones, Fifth Third has that covered with a mobile banking app that J.D. Power ranks No. 1 for satisfaction among regional banks.

Fifth Third Bank’s Patrile Stallworth has led the charge locally to open the bank’s Birmingham retail financial centers. She shared how rewarding it is to celebrate the culmination of many months of planning with the communities the teams serve.

All ribbon-cutting events will include complimentary food, giveaways, prizes and socializing.

“These celebrations are our way of thanking the community for the warm welcome we’ve received already, as well as for the community to share in on our excitement of becoming a part of Birmingham’s growth and success.”
