New scenic mountain bike trail opens at Oak Mountain State Park

A new backcountry mountain bike path called the Jack Hammer Trail has opened at Oak Mountain State Park.
Built by the Birmingham Urban Mountain Peddlers (BUMP), the trail crosses the recently purchased Forever Wild Belcher tract addition to Oak Mountain State Park.
The trail, which crosses from the Belcher property into Oak Mountain, features challenging topography and stunning views.
Chase Draper, President of the BUMP told Bham Now the trail is an attempt to create the kind of backwoods experience you would have within a wilderness area at a National Forest.
“Being able to create that backcountry experience here in Birmingham is kind of a new thing for us, The topography was incredibly challenging.”

The project was made possible by Innovate Alabama and Shelby County Commission. According to Draper, the new Oak Mountain State Park trail is one of the largest trail investments in the state.
